Of course, there is no reason you couldn't turn this into a full-time job and earn your living doing a pleasant job. As a matter of fact, this is what I have been doing for the last two years.
The concept this kind of “business” is based on is pretty simple to understand. Once you have a few good pictures you want to sell, you can upload them to specialized websites, where other people will be able to see your work and buy the photos you submitted.
Every time someone buys one of your pictures you get a commission, which is usually something between $1 and $10, depending on the size of the photo you sell and its quality. This price may not seem that much, but imagine what you could earn if you submitted 20 or 30 pictures per week. Or per day!
This is actually what I first did when I got started. I was very happy with the couple of hundred dollars I was making every month for doing a little work in the weekend, while enjoying myself.
But it all changed when I went to Thailand, took a lot of photos of the places I found interested (about 4000 pictures in 2 weeks) and sold them for a little more than $10.000 during the next two months.
That is when I decided I could easily do this for a living. I didn't yet managed to make as much as I did after Thailand, but I am now averaging about $3000 every month, which is more than I need for a comfortable lifestyle.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't have to be a professional photographer to sell your pictures online and make some extra money on a regular basis.
