I recently sat at my desk listening to a recorded conference call by Dr. Ellie Drake, another network marketing professional. It was an effective teleconference about developing listening skills and learning to connect to people with ease. The crux of the training call was the art of empathic listening.
Empathic listening requires you to ask a question and WAIT for the answer. But while you’re waiting, you’re LISTENING with the intent to understand, not with the intention of replying. Did you catch that? Listen with the intent to understand. Don’t listen with the intent to reply. This means not thinking about what you want to say while your prospect is talking. It means to really focus on the words they are saying and what is going on in their mind. Without judging. Listen to their words, watch their body language, and focus on the speaker completely.
What is a leader? Or should I ask, what is a strong or good leader? A strong or good leader is a vibrant person who is a people magnet. In other words, people are drawn to individuals who have the personal package of confidence; love for people; desire to help people; knowledgeable; problem-solver; being an intelligent risk taker; creative/out of the box thinker; self-motivator; and integrity.
Becoming a good leader requires one to drain him or her of selfishness and jealousy. A leader likes to see others achieve and gives them positive reinforcement. A leader is quick to allocate praise to others. Empower people! A selfish and jealous leader destroys his or her leadership and breeds discontent among team members.

To attract people to you, you have to position yourself as a leader and in order to do that you must show that you know what you are doing.
This is a story about my friend Stan. A brutal divorce had left Stan hurting for money. He had a fairly good job as an accountant with a men’s wear company, but he needed more money fast to deal with marital debts and child care expenses.
A mutual friend told him about this great, new work at home opportunity. Stan was slightly skeptical, but he figured that he was going to have to be open to find something that would allow him to get going quickly and the idea of working from home appealed to him, since that would give him more time with his son.
